China's rising energy needs

China’s electricity demand is booming again! It's set to rise by 6.5 percent in 2024. That’s like adding the entire electricity demand of Germany every year! Why? Rapid growth in industries like solar, EV production and the massive expansion of 5G and data centres are fuelling the surge.

India, the fastest-growing economy in the world, also has huge energy needs. It's about to post an 8 percent jump in electricity consumption, thanks to scorching heatwaves and sky-high cooling demand.

Here's another trend no one is talking about. The AI boom! It's not captured by this chart, but it too is set to supercharge demand to electricity do the the enormous power needs of data centres worldwide. So get ready for even bigger electricity demand in the future.
