The chart below from the Financial Times reveals an alarming drop in US youth trust in government. Under-30s say they are losing confidence in everything from the police to the judicial system. And with inflation, partisan rancour and political theatrics dominating headlines, young adults find little reason to believe that politicians care about their future.

Some blame the explosion of social media and a growing sense of polarisation. Others highlight economic pressures, pointing out that student debt, job market woes and high living costs leave young people jaded. Then there’s President Trump’s second term, which many feel only deepens these divides.
