Scientists have revealed 2024 was the first calendar year to soar beyond that symbolic 1.5°C threshold – briefly – making it the hottest year on record. The data comes from Europe’s Copernicus climate service and the WMO, confirming what many had feared. It doesn’t mean the 1.5°C global target is definitively shattered, but it puts us dangerously close as fossil fuel emissions keep the planet on a warming trajectory.
