You might not believe this, but the Nasdaq has officially overtaken the New York Stock Exchange in market cap and this chart tells the whole story! We’re talking about a massive shift in power. The NYSE used to dominate the US stock market, but look at that red line! The Nasdaq has been creeping up for years and even briefly touched the NYSE during the post-Covid bounce. Now, it looks set to take the crown.

What’s driving this? It’s all about tech. The big players – Apple, Amazon, Microsoft – have exploded in value, while old-school companies on the NYSE are growing at a slower rate as they are further along in the business cycle. By contrast, Nasdaq has become the ultimate home for tech giants, which is why its value has risen so significantly.

This chart speaks volumes about how the US economy is starting to change and what the future might hold. It highlights how the innovation within fast-growing technology companies is starting to make its presence felt, with more mature traditional companies lagging behind. What we might be witnessing is a complete restructuring of the US economy as we continue to advance and progress into this digital and technological world.
