Tesla has hit a rough patch. For the first time since 2011, its annual deliveries have dropped, landing at 1.79 million in 2024. That’s just below last year’s total of 1.81 million – and investors aren’t thrilled. Shares tumbled more than 6 percent, especially as Elon Musk had promised a sharp rebound in sales.
Though Tesla remained the top electric vehicle maker globally, Chinese rival BYD sold 1.76 million pure EVs plus a record number of hybrids. Fierce price competition from China’s cheaper EVs and concerns over slowing growth have weighed on the entire sector.
