Half of US teens spend more than four hours staring at screens
Five charts to start your day
Every day, teenagers across America wake up to a world dominated by screens. The numbers are staggering: half of all teens aged 12-17 spend more than four hours each day staring at phones, tablets and computers. And that's not even counting their schoolwork.
Put that in perspective: these young people are spending over 25 percent of their waking hours in front of screens. That's one-quarter of their day, every day, consumed by digital devices.
The implications are serious. Among teens with four-plus hours of daily screen time, 26 percent show signs of depression, while 27 percent report anxiety symptoms. Scientists have found links to memory problems, falling grades and disrupted sleep patterns.
