Musk’s X loses users
Five killer charts
Good morning – here are your five chart for the day. Each one comes snap stat, quick take and why it matters. Skim, steal, forward (but always credit!!).
CHART 1 • Musk’s X loses users as Threads downloads surge
Eighteen months after Elon Musk took the helm, daily users of X in the US have fallen 18% to 27 million, according to Sensor Tower. Global mobile engagement is down 15%. Ad spend has evaporated as big brands flinch from volatile content and patchy moderation.
Meanwhile Threads, Meta’s text rival, records sixteen US downloads for every one on X and tops Apple’s free-app chart. Yet daily active counts remain modest, proving signing up is easier than sticking around. Neither Bluesky nor Mastodon has broken through, leaving Twitter’s successor wounded but not replaced.
Musk is pushing subscriptions and creator payouts to plug the revenue hole, but March in-app purchases hit just $9.5 million – pocket change against Twitter’s old billion-dollar quarters.
Snap stat – US mobile daily users on X fell 18% year on year to 27 million in February
Quick take – Worldwide actives slid 15% and top-100 US advertisers fled
Why it matters – Shrinking reach threatens subscription hopes and cuts ad yields
Steal-this-caption – “Elon’s X lost 18% of daily users – rival Threads won the download race 16:1.” #FiveChartsDaily
