Five killer charts: AI’s power binge
Five charts to start your day
Good morning – here are your five chart for the day. Each one comes snap stat, quick take and why it matters. Skim, steal, forward (but always credit!!).
CHART 1 • Data-centre power demand is set to treble
None of this is surprising. Many large tech companies are actually making plans to install small nuclear power plants near their server farms to meet the huge power consumption requirements from AI. The reason why this chart is interesting is because it shows visually just how disruptive AI has been to our digital economy. By 2035, half of all power demand from data centres will come from AI-optimised servers.
Snap stat – 1,200 TWh global load forecast for 2035, with half of this demand coming from AI–optimised servers
Quick take – AI-servers are set to match the same level of power demand as conventional servers by 2035. It demonstrates how our digital economy will become increasingly AI-driven going forward.
Why it matters – Grids must add Japan-sized generation in a decade or face shortages.
Steal-this-caption – “AI could swallow half of all new US power demand by 2035.” #FiveChartsDaily
