Surprise! Coal is massive in Asia. In fact, it is the main source of electricity for many Asia countries, including India and China. It is a bit depressing really, especially after politicians around the world pledged net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The problem is that it is much harder for these countries to reach net-zero if they are still developing and still producing all the manufactured goods that we enjoy in the developed world.

This data visualisation from Visual Capitalist, gives you a snapshot of Asia's primary sources of electricity generation by country in 2021. Coal accounts for 52% of the electricity generated across the region, followed by natural gas (17%) and hydro (14%).
