Google continues to dominate in an increasingly cluttered internet
Of course, there are no surprises when it comes to Google. The search engine's name has even entered our vocabulary. When were you last told to "just Google it?”
At the start of this year, there was some speculation that Google’s dominance would now end, after the arrival of ChatGPT threatened to disrupt the search engine market. Microsoft, which had a stake in ChatGPT, incorporated the AI tool into its search function.
But this was met with limited success. It was executed poorly and internet users still prefer Google, even if Bard is less capable than ChatGPT. The Internet continues to get increasingly more cluttered, and Google seems to still be able to make sense of it.

The extensive dominance of Google has prompted the US Justice Department to initiate a civil antitrust lawsuit, citing instances of what it perceives to be anticompetitive and exclusionary behaviour.
However, a notable insight from this chart is the apparent lack of traction for Bing in 2023, despite the launch of its recent AI-powered version in February.
This latest iteration of Bing emerged from Microsoft's substantial $10 billion investment into OpenAI at the outset of 2023, enabling the tech behemoth to integrate the highly acclaimed GPT-4 into its diverse array of products and services.
