The effects of China’s one-child policy are now feeding into the lower echelons of China’s population. The results are terrifying. Within a generation, China will face one of the most rapidly ageing population crises in the world. The rate of this demographic change is so dramatic that it makes the trends currently witnessed in Japan appear mild. By the end of this century, the UN projects that there will be an almost halving of China’s population.
