Five charts to start your day
Alcohol is considered as harmful as crack, methamphetamines, heroin and cocaine
When I was in Central Park yesterday, there was this annoying whiff of cannabis everywhere. In fact, we got faint whiffs of the stuff all over the city. I can’t stand the smell and I hate cannabis. It has always been legal to smoke and grow it in small quantities in Switzerland, as far as I know, but the Swiss never smoke it in your face.
Fortunately, though, cannabis is not that bad as a drug on the broader scale of things. It’s worse than nicotine but nowhere near as bad for you as alcohol. Now, this is surprising because alcohol is widely drunk and legal in most countries. But there is nothing really good about alcohol. It’s a toxin and it’s bad for you. And if you are an alcoholic, it often kills you slowly without your knowing. I just found it interesting that it has been ranked so highly in the study, along with crack, methamphetamines, heroin, and cocaine. It’s quite worrying.
