Five charts to start your day
Since the 1920s the vast majority of of TIME Person of the Year winners have been men
Taylor Swift has been named TIME's Person of the Year. She is an incredible woman and one of the few pop stars to become a billionaire. However, what's interesting is the history of this award. Here’s a great chart from Chartr.
It shows the gender of all the past winners, along with their ages. Notice how the vast majority of them are men. Since 1927, only eight women have won the award. Age also seems to be a significant factor, as most recipients are on average 60 years old.
So, Taylor Swift is very much an outlier, both in terms of age (she is 33 years old) and gender (she is of course a lady). The only two women who have received this award at a younger age than Taylor Swift were Queen Elizabeth II, who was 26 years old at the time, and Greta Thunberg, who was 16.
