Europe's automakers are in a race against time, scrambling to defend their home turf from an unexpected challenger: China. And the battleground? Affordable electric vehicles.

The traditional giants are rolling out their counter-offensive. Volkswagen is launching over 30 new products, including an ambitious €20,000 EV – though we'll have to wait until 2027 for that one. Stellantis has already fired its first shot with the €23,300 Citroën ë-C3, while Renault is taking an interesting approach – developing its budget EVs in China itself.
