What a lot of people don't know is that I was actually born in Sydney. Yes! I am an Australian national. You wouldn't know it because I have an extremely English accent, as I was brought up in the UK from the age of seven onwards. But my father is Australian and still lives in Sydney and my brother lives in Perth, serving in the army.
So I do keep in touch with the often wild world of Australian politics. And when I say "wild", Australia never really disappoints. That's why I still watch ABC News here in Switzerland — the most entertaining show on Earth. And now they've done it again: they've banned social media for kids under the age of 16!
I understand that there are problems with social media, especially for teens. There are issues like cyberbullying, and it is also a massive distraction. As a father of a teenage girl, I am well aware of how much screen time platforms like Snapchat can consume.
