Mankind has an unquenchable thirst for power and wealth. It has no boundaries when it comes to suppressing the dreams and ambitions of others.

Why? Because of greed!

“Radix malorum est cupiditas”, or greed is the root of all evil.

But, is this true? It’s a bit harsh. I know greed is supposed to be one of the seven deadly sins, but the Pardoner who uttered this Latin phrase in the Canterbury tales, was a greedy old fart in the first place.

Is wealth really greed? Why are we both disgusted and yet fascinated by wealth?

That is what these two data visualisations this week are about. But before we start damming the rich, what’s the other side of this story?
